Ready For ‘Big School’!

One of the biggest milestones in your child’s life is the transition to “big school”. We help building the foundations to give your little one the best start into this exciting journey of learning by developing their social, emotional, behaviour, thinking and communication skills.

At Woongarrah we focus our school readiness program on the school’s requirements

We centre our preschool program around readying your child for school and to successfully master the transition. In the process we look at a selection of key areas, take note on how your child is progressing and ask the child and caregivers both to put forward their thoughts and suggestions. This information is then bundled and given to the child’s future school and teacher to ensure a smooth passage.

Children’s brains develop faster in the first five years than at any other time in their lives. This is the time when the foundations for learning and behaviour throughout life are laid down. Our holistic and in depth approach to school readiness includes, for instance, weekly focusses. With weekly (fun) homework we help children to create a routine and to be confident in preparation for primary school.

A continuity of learning supports a successful transition and is crucial for optimising outcomes for children. That’s why we work closely with local primary schools, hosting information nights at the service and liaising with teachers. We want to make sure we’re providing the best start for each child. We encourage parent participation at Woongarrah ELC and at home with homework sheets that display children’s developing confidence and include families in their learning.

We include a Jolly Phonics program to help children link sound, sight and creation of English letters.

Our Woongarrah ELC school readiness program is non-compulsory but we would love you and your child/ren to participate at your own level for the benefit of everyone.
